About

Hi!  I’m Daena and this is my beauty blog!

About me:

I’m 36, an artist and sculptor,  geek, gamer and all around weirdo.  I’m obsessed with makeup, hair dyes and nail polishes and have been since I was a kid.  As an artist, I love the way we can put on a new face to suit our moods with makeup.  We can hide our flaws, accentuate the things we like and completely change our persona simply using makeup.  And at the end of the day, we can wash it off and start all over again.

Oscar Wilde said, ” Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.”

I believe makeup can also be a mask — and that’s just half the fun of it.  I think of makeup as a sort of impermanent wearable art.  While I’m also a fan of permanent wearable art in the form of tattoos and body modifications, there’s certainly something to be said for art you can change on a daily basis.

I live in south-central Louisiana and I’m married and have 3 cats.  I got married on Halloween.  In costume.  That probably says all you need to know about my personality!

About this Blog:

My focus is on cruelty-free brands.  All items featured here are by cruelty-free companies unless otherwise specifically stated.  While I don’t agree with everything PETA does, I do find their Caring Consumer page a hugely valuable resource in learning more about which brands do/don’t test on animals.  I know animal testing in cosmetics is a controversial subject but for me, it’s not up for debate:  I just don’t think it’s necessary to test vanity items on animals.

Why “brightly colored person?”

Two reasons:

And ...this is why I’m a brightly colored person!
